FROM THE BOARD
May
2004
The Board (www.hvca-news.org)
for the Huntington Village Community Association (HVCA) would like
to begin the task of changing our "Deed Restriction" wording. This
would enable HVCA to keep up with the growing costs for maintaining
the existing facilities and community: two swimming pools, two recreational
park areas, grounds, tennis courts, and a community building - as
well as security patrol.
Accomplishment
of this project will require the cooperation of all Huntington Village
(HV) homeowners. We must obtain NOTARIZED signatures from the owners
of a minimum of 1,216 lots in order to proceed. We would like to
call a special meeting of all residents and homeowners to discuss
this project. We want to get your opinions on the maintenance fee
level and acceptable wording necessary to accomplish this task.
At the annual
meeting this past fall the community agreed that the maintenance
fees would remain at $144 or $12 per month (one year's subscription
to Houston Chronicle). This level has existed for almost twenty
years and has drastically limited the HVCA's ability to maintain
our community facilities to the degree that this fee allowed at
its initial implementation. The Board has been diligently trying
to manage by cutting costs where possible and soliciting volunteer
help in several areas: the building renewal project, park tree and
shrubbery trimming, and the negotiation of the maximum return on
all contracts currently necessary to operate the association, insurance,
grounds, and pools.
Due to growing
concerns, we would like to discuss the need for more security patrol
shifts for the community and need to know if you are willing to
support additional costs for this coverage. An effective crime deterrent
would be installing dusk-to-dawn150 watt flood lamps on the corners
of your house and each would cost you $4.50 per month. Would you
be willing to spend $6 to $8 more per month to have increased patrol
coverage that would help avert criminal activities and create a
safer community?
It is extremely
important to the HVCA that you assist us with the "Deed Restriction
Wording Project" and communicate your opinions on how we can best
serve the community. The HVCA needs people to volunteer to become
certified as a Notary Public. All volunteers will be reimbursed
for this cost after collecting a minimum number of signatures from
the homeowners. It is my sincere hope that you will plan to attend
this special meeting, when it is called, and also attend the Board
meeting held on Thursday of the third week of each month at 7:30
PM.
HVCA and the
community needs your communication and participation.
